New Limited Edition Release
Peg Whisky adds an 11-year-old Single Grain to their Limited Edition range.
2020 was a period of innovation and success for us here at Peg Whisky. We introduced the world to three new whiskies: the Blended Scotch, the Small Batch Exclusive Series 1 and the Limited Edition No. I.
Now, with the launch of our latest whisky…. please welcome our Peg Whisky Limited Edition No. II – an impressive 11-Year-Old Single Grain Scotch Whisky from the Port Dundas Distillery.
Where did it start?
A bit of history for you, the Port Dundas Distillery was built in 1811 at the highest point in the city of Glasgow. It was known as the largest distillery in Scotland. Cowlairs, a neighbouring distillery started operation soon after and in 1860 the two sites merged. Followed closely by a merger of another distillery, Dundashill, in 1902.
The Port Dundas distillery produced over a huge 39 million litres of spirit each year on its 21-acre site which has been demolished since 2011. The Port Dundas distillery distils no more, but that didn't stop us from bottling up their tasty Single Grain Scotch Whisky. There aren’t many casks available before the distillery closed, so we count ourselves lucky to be able to own one of them and bottle it for you.
After all, because the distillery is now demolished this bottling really is limited edition stuff and only exclusively available to buy from the Peg Whisky website.
What is it about?
This 11-year-old single cask whisky has been bottled at 59.1% ABV and is non-chill filtered, cask strength and natural colour to give you its maximum flavour, to ensure it stays as pure as possible.
Our Limited Edition No. II has a limited release of only 274 bottles available worldwide at RRP £70. So, whether you’re a whisky enthusiast, a collector, a connoisseur or just want to gift this special whisky to someone else… then this is the perfect option.
Tasting Notes:
Nose: Sweet vanilla with hints of caramel, citrus fruits and wet wood
Palate: Custard cream biscuit and lemon sponge cake leading to anise and black pepper, with a quick hit of chilli heat
Finish: Long, spicy and charred wood finish, lingering smoke with gentle hints of peat
We asked some whisky lovers what they thought of our new release and here's what they had to say…
@londonwhiskyguy
“...Nose: lot’s of classic grain character. Creamy vanilla, buttered popcorn and creme caramel. Boiled sweets and pear drops. There are some underlying vegetal notes with hints of grass. Once again the guys at @pegwhisky have unearthed another gem and with only 274 bottles around I’d be in a hurry to get one…”
@poshscotch
“...Palate: Thick and chewy, with a crystalline cube of demerara sugar before some smoke starts to (very) quickly bite. A dense, musky peat, with some chilli heat, and a vegetal, earthy note to it. The spice builds, with pepper, anise and clove adding some variety. A little lemon meringue. it’s very very interesting. I’ve tried it a couple of times now to make sure it’s not just me. Worth a try just to experience the unexpected…”
@whiskytee
“...Finish: Long and spicey, lingering smoke and a sweet back note.
Another high ABV from @pegwhisky with this dram being 59.1% but with a super smoothness you’d not be able to tell. Not sure what voodoo magic @pegwhisky uses to get such smoothness in their whiskies but it’s impressive…”
@whiskyexplorer_
“...What could that third, very light whisky be 🤔 I guess you best follow @pegwhisky if you want to find out!
What I can tell you is that it’s damn delicious, at 11 years old and 59.1%. You’ll have to act fast when it’s released though as is #limited and there will be only 274 bottles available…”
@hennessymacallan_collector
“...This is now the second expression that I have tasted from Peg Whisky. Following on from the Peg Whisky Series 1 that I thoroughly enjoyed last year, the Limited Edition 2 has also impressed me, and I have to say that I'm really liking what these guys are producing…”
@SingleMaltVault
“...The nose has delicate malt, lemon meringue pie, fresh meadow with vanilla pods. The palate starts off with some sweet fresh fruits developing into menthol sweets, demerara sugar coated cinnamon bun, a touch of tar gives a textured mouthfeel where the medicinal side of the dram really kicks into a big finish of a meaty mouthfeel, touch of chewy leather, ending with an ash filled mouthfeel with a touch of cinnamon... a very satisfying grain whisky..”
@the_world_of_whiskey_uk
“...Limited to 274 bottles, this latest expression from @pegwhisky was distilled at Port Dundas distillery from the Lowland region on 16th November 2009, matured in Hogshead casks for 11 years and bottled at Cask Strength on November 18th 2020, coming in at a punchy 59.1%.
Tasting notes:
Nose: Sweet vanilla, caramel, citrus fruits and wet wood.
Palette: Custard cream biscuit, lemon sponge, anise, black pepper, chilli heat.
Finish: Long, spicy, charred wood finish, lingering smoke and gentle hints of peat.
Go for this expression, you won’t regret it…”
